Great News . . .
We're NOW publishing monthly!!!
Be sure to check back at the beginning of each month.
Tizley's Europub _ Historic Downtown Poulsbo, WA USA
This month's Downtown Spotlight is on Tizley's Europub

In the 1880’s a woman, her brother, and his six year old son ventured out from Michigan and settled on the shores of what we now call Liberty Bay; but for them, it was a fjord, like one found in their native Norway. Their names were Rakel, Jorgen, and CJ Eliason, and the land they began to farm had views of the water and the Olympic Mountains. Their lives took a natural progression of the familiar, to what they loved, shared, and worked.

Tizley's Europub - Historic Downtown Poulsbo, WA USARob DiFilippo and Tammy Matson worked in the hospitality industry for twenty-six years combined. They both settled in Poulsbo and worked at a downtown restaurant, where they met. While there, they had the idea to bring European food to our European town and made plans to start Tizley’s Europub, a natural progression for our downtown area and for the two entrepreneurs. In May of 2006, they opened the pub and kept it open later than any other local restaurant, with the idea that people in North Kitsap stayed up and out past 9:00pm. Thank goodness! At first it was a challenge for them, but in the end the word got out about Tizley’s and a loyal local following developed, which is one of their favorite parts of owning a restaurant by the way, the one-on-one contact with their loyal customers.

“We wouldn’t be anywhere without our staff,” Tammy says of the wonderful people she manages. The staff at Tizley’s are witty, welcoming, competent and knowledgeable about the menu, sixty labels of beer, twelve drafts, and higher quality spirits, including a nice selection of single malt scotches. Tammy’s own abilities reflect in her staff, she’s professional, articulate, and capable. She also runs the deli downstairs during the day, which is also worthy of a visit, with its 130 labels of beer and other European treats.

Tizley's Europub - Historic Downtown Poulsbo, WA USARob runs the show in the kitchen and is responsible for the wide selection of beers, and he ventures out to shows at local venues and in Seattle listening for talented musicians, who he books for performances at Tizley’s. Talented, local musicians group together on Wednesday nights for an open-mic, which is hosted by local bassist, Kimberly Lynn, and Rob finds many performers during those evenings. A crowd favorite, local brewer nights, is one of Rob’s ideas. Customer’s settle into their seats and enjoy five courses of local beer, European food, and a talk given by a local brewer. There are plans to add occasional distiller nights and regional beer dinners to their happenings.

When some of my friends were visiting Poulsbo, Tizley’s was the first place I took them, and my German friend loved the European food and outdoor seating on their deck area. You will, too. Be sure to visit one of our best kept secrets, just head down the “red light” mini-ally next to Sluy’s Bakery, and take the stairs up into Europe.
